Bugle used by Thomas Francis Meagher to summon a boat while he lived at Lake Sorell, Tasmania, 1851 - 1852. Brass bugle, overall length of tube 14 inches, reduced to 5 in by one twist; diameter of bell mouth, including everted lip, 3 inches. No marks. A length of plaited cord attached to make a sling. This bugle was given to Eamon de Valera by Monsignor Cullen, Hobart, Tasmania, in 1948, who related to him the traditional ascription to T.F. Meagher;
