Circular centrepiece of the banner of the County Carlow Legion, Irish Volunteers, about 1780. Mounted on a square piece of cloth. In the centre is a seated woman, Hibernia, resting her right arm on a Maid of Erin harp, and holding a sheaf in her left hand. In her left is a pole with the cap of Liberty. Around the top is the inscription COUNTY CARLOW LEGION, around the bottom BE TRUE TO YOURSELVES. All is encircled by stems of foliage.;
