Officer's Light Company jacket of the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot, c.1800-1809. Officer's Light Company scarlet jacket of the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot, with buff facings, c.1800-1809. There are fifty-one silver plated slightly domed buttons, each bearing a Georgian crown above the numerals 71 in relief. On the back of each button the maker's name I.M. Gowan, London. There are three buttons missing from the rear skirts. The buttons are spaced singly. The padded shoulder wings are covered with silver plated chain mail, edged with silver wire spiral cord. On the back of each turnback is a silver wire embroidered bugle horn set on a scarlet base. The lining is of course off-white cloth. Note. This regiment later became the Highland Light Infantry. This jacket was on loan to the National Army Museum, Chelsea, for some years.;
