political cartoon / Rude Borey-Ass and the Traveller, 1888

Political cartoon, supplement with the Weekly Freeman, 10 March 1888. Titled 'Rude Borey-Ass and the Traveller'. Depicting the female Erin with a green cloak named 'Irish National League' wrapped tightly around her, with Balfour blowing a cold wind named 'Coercion'. With a quote from Aesop's Fables - 'A dispute arose betwixt the North Wind and the Sun about the superiority of their power. They determined to try their strength upon a traveller as to which should be able to get his cloak off first. The North Wind began and blew a cruel and savage blast, but it only succeeded in making the traveller gird his mantle around him the more closely. Next the Sun came and shod his gentle beams until the forlorn traveller growing warm and happy, removed his cloak. Application - Love governs more than Anger. With verse. Collection of cartoons printed in book form - THE WEEKLY FREEMAN CARTOONS, FORMING THE POLITICAL HISTORY OF IRELAND FOR THE GREATER PORTION OF 1888. Taken from the Freeman's Journal, Dublin, 1888.;
