stick / Charles Stewart Parnell

Walking stick of Charles Stewart Parnell. 35 inches overall. Carved oak - the carving depicting a serpent pointing upwards through the vines and grapes towards the rose, thistle and shamrock intertwined. At junction with the black handle and the stick is a silver band bearing the letters "C.S.P." The stick became the property of Parnell's housekeeper after the sale at Avondale. A friend of her's in turn presented it at a public function in New York to Lindsay Crawford.;
