Prayer Book Dublin, 1918. Prayer book, in Irish and English on alternating pages. Given by Tomas Mac Curtain, Lord Mayor of Cork, to his wife Eilis in 1918, while a prisoner in Reading Jail. Green leather (?) cover; dedication on inside first page: 'Do Eilis/ Mi na Nodhlag/ 1918'. Nolan, John (Rev.) ed., St. Patrick's Prayer Book (Dublin:James Duffy and Co. Ltd., 1918). 135pp. Length 12.2 cm x Width 8.1 cm x D 1.5 cm. Also: photocopy of a note that accompanied the gift. Text: 'To my darling wife -- with all good wishes for her health and happiness and with the fervent hope that we may soon again be united -- Your devoted -- Tom "It is not the value of the gift which counts but the undying love of the giver"'.
