uniform / Irish Citizen Army, post 1916

Irish Citizen Army uniform, post 1916. Comprising jacket, pants and hat. Originally an Australian soldier's uniform, it was dyed and converted into an I.C.A. one by Captain Seán O'Neill, who had seen 1916 service under Commandant Mallin in the Royal College of Surgeons. This is not the uniform worn by O'Neill during the Rising. This was the basis of the post 1916 I.C.A. uniform and was itself used on ceremonial parades. Captain O'Neill was imprisoned in Richmond, Wandsworth and Frongoch in 1916 and was killed when fighting on the Republican side in 1922. Tunic. Dark green serge, 'I.C.A.' on five front buttons, cuffs turned back with buttons with single harp, these buttons also on the breast pocket flaps and hip pocket flaps. Shoulder straps also held in place by these buttons.;
