souvenir / Belfast Gaol, 1918

"Tara" brooch cast by a prisoner from lead from roof gutters of Belfast Jail, 1918. On the reverse is the cast inscription: "A souvenir of the siege in Belfast Gaol, Xmas Week, 1918" and "S. O Muineacháin" Diam. of circle, 2.75 inches; length of "pin", 4.25 inches. The brooch belonged to Felix Meehan who was in 1918 an official in Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast.;
