Growing by Small Degrees and Beautifully Less, 1887
Political cartoon, supplement to the United Ireland, 19 February 1887. Titled 'Growing by Small Degrees and Beautifully Less'. Depicts sacks of money representing the fall in rents from 1880 to 1886, referencing Lord Clanricarde's letter The Times - It is a lie that his rents amount to £20,000 a year. The were £20,000 some years ago, they were £16,000 in 1882, they amounted in 1885 to £8,000, and this year they are nothing at all'. Set in the office of 'Sangnetti, Money Lender', with a scrooge-like figure wearing a crown (possibly Lord Clanricarde or Sangnetti), while outside of the office stands a Irish male holding the Plan of Campaign.;
