cap / Éamonn Ceannt / Piper's Costume
Red cap with yellow/cream embroidery around the band.
The cap of the Piper's Costume worn by Éamonn Ceannt. This was the costume which he wore when in September 1908, he played the Irish War Pipes before his Holiness the Pope Pius X at the Vatican. The costume was one of three which were made to Éamonn Ceannt's design for an Irish concert at the Queen's hall, London, Nov. 10, 1903. It was made by Miss E. Ceannt, sister-in-law of Mrs. Eamonn Ceannt. Great attention was paid to the designing as it was designed that this costume should be as close as possible to historical accounts. This, as found, consists of tunic, trousers or leg coverings, leather straps for ditto, brown shoes and red cap.;
