O'Connell, Daniel glazed pottery figure, Staffordshire, coloured by Sampson Smith about 1875. Full length figure, standing, right hand on lip, left hand resting on pillar. Shown wearing white pantaloons, white waistcoat with maroon buttons and decorated with maroon dots, arranged in threes, black stock, blue coat. Bareheaded, a black wide-brimmed, flat-crowned hat. being placed on a second pillar or stump on his right hand side. Black shoes or boots. The pillar on which left hand rests coloured terra cota, with pale green cloth draped on top. The other pillar or stump, entirely covered with draped pink cloth with orange coloured sack or object of net on top, immediately under the hat. On the base in front, in black letters D.O. CONNELL. No mark. Overall height 16 in. Elliptical base 7x 3.5 in.;
