Davis, Thomas, Osborne, Prize Medal, Silver, Hand Engraved. Awarded to in 1836. Obv: Two laurel wreaths extending around from knot of ribbon below; and the hand engraved inscription TRIN COLL DUB PROPTER ARTES LIBERALES FELICITER EXCULTAS. Rev: In centre hand engraved Davis, Thomas, around, also hand engraved COMITIIS VERNIS MDCCCXXXVI. Raised rim on both sides. Hallmark: made by Hy. Flavelle, Dublin, about 1836. Diameter 2 inches. In contemporary box, wood covered maroon leather, with circular, printed label attached to inside of lid. Label reads: GEOE. BROWN, SEAL ENGRAVED TO THE KING, 3, FOWNES'S STREET DUBLIN, and displays the 1801-37 arms. On the outside of lid, on top, in gilt lettering T.O.D. Donor says that this may have been put on later, to stand for T. Osborne Davis, Rev. T. Atkyns Davis, her father. On the other hand, the box is contemporary and the lettering could be so. Stamped on base of box with an inked rubber stamp, REV. T. ATKYNS DAVIS. The donor is a descendant of Thomas Davis of the Young Irelanders.;
