piper costume / Eamonn Ceannt, 1908

The piper's costume worn by Eamonn Ceannt. This was the costume which he wore when in September 1908, he played the Irish War Pipes before his Holiness the Pope Pius X at the Vatican. The costume was one of three which were made to Eamonn Ceannt's design for an Irish concert at the Queen's hall, London, Nov. 10, 1903. It was made by Miss E. Ceannt, sister-in-law of Mrs. Eamonn Ceannt (Aine). Great attention was paid to the designing as it was designed that this costume should be as close as possible to historical accounts. This consists of tunic, trousers or leg coverings, leather straps for ditto, brown shoes and red cap. Green tunic with red brat, fastened by a gold brooch, Tara style.;
