Ruined home of Mr Matthias McGrath, Moyasta, Co. Clare. This house was thus demolished by the battering ram, under the supervision of Colonel Turner, D.C., 26 July 1888. McGrath’s rent was £18.0.0; Poor Law valuation £14.4.0. Patt McGrath, the tenant’s son, with his sister resisted the eviction with most desperate courage, and his mother died three days afterwards from grief, believing that her son was killed in the fight. For his resistance Patt McGrath was sentenced to several periods of imprisonment with only terminate in October 1889.;
