Fenian photograph, one of 45 contained in a photograph album. Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Colonel Thomas J. Kelly. This man was arrested in Manchester for Fenianism, but was rescued from the police van at which time the sergeant in charge was shot. Photograph numbered 2. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
