Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. John Dunne, single, late Lieutenant U.S Volunteers, age 26. Height 5 foot 7 ¼ inches, complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes small and hazel, regular nose and mouth, small visage, average make. Photograph numbered 11. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
