Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Bernard McDermott, single, a lithographer, late Captain U.S. Volunteers, age 24. Height 5 foot 6 ½ inches, complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, nose and mouth regular, oval visage, average make. Photograph numbered 13. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
