Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. John William Byron, single, a soldiers American Republic 88th N.Y. Regiment, age 24. Height 5 foot 4 ¼ inches, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, regular nose, large mouth, oval visage, stout make, cut mark on left eye, a gunshot wound on right wrist. Photograph numbered 14.
A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
