Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Edward McGuigan, single, Private soldier U.S. Army, age 22. Height 5 foot 5 inches, complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, regular mouth and nose, oval visage, stout make. Photograph numbered 19. This is the same man as depicted in the photograph (same photograph) numbered 12 (Maurice Fitzharris), but with some differing description details. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
