Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Thomas Blackwell, single, late soldiers U.S. Army, age 21. Height 5 foot 11 inches, complexion dark, hair light brown, eyes hazel, long nose, ordinary mouth, small oval visage, slender make. Photograph numbered 20. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
