Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Nicholas Walsh, single, artist, age 29. Height 5 foot 8 inches, complexion fair, hair (bald top of head) fair, eyes hazel, thick short nose, ordinary mouth, large forehead, oval visage, average make. Photograph numbered 25. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
