Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. James Byrne, single, age 26. Height 5 foot 8 inches, complexion swarthy, red pimples on face, hair fair, eyes blue, thick nose, regular mouth, oval visage, stout make. Photograph numbered 32. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
