Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. William McCrea, single, law student, age 25. Height 6 foot 2 ½ inches, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, ordinary nose, small mouth, long oval visage, stout make. Photograph numbered 35. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
