Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Benjamin Marsden, single, coachtrimmer, age 22. Height 5 foot 7 ½ inches, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey, ordinary nose and mouth, oval visage, ordinary make. Photograph numbered 39. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
