Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. Thomas Brougham, single, farmer’s son, age 22. Height 5 foot 6 ¾ inches, complexion swarthy, slightly pockmarked, hair brown, eyes blue, eyebrows highly arched, long sharp nose, small mouth, oval visage, average make. Photograph numbered 40. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
