Fenian photograph, one of 45 contained in a photograph album. Photograph, with handwritten description and personal details of a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, or Fenian Brotherhood, arrested c. 1868. John Duffy, single, lately attending school, brother of Edward Duffy, James Stephens’ deputy. Age 20. Height 5 foot 9 ½ inches, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, ordinary nose, large mouth, oval visage, slender make. Photograph numbered 45. A handwritten note at the back of the album reads ‘These photographs, except number 2 who was arrested in Manchester, were taken while the persons named, many of them it will be seen have held commissions in the U.S Army, were in custody in Ireland during the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act, about 1868.;
