relic / Fr John Murphy, Boolavogue, 1798

Piece of crimson silk brocade, about 3" by 1.5", said to be part of a vestment worn by Fr John Murphy of Boolavogue. Given to the father of Brother Bernard Doyle (James Doyle, Tuckmill) by a Mrs Clarke. This note was attached when James Doyle received it 'Presented by Mrs Clarke, Baltinglass, as portion of vestment of Fr John Murphy, who was executed in Tullow in 1798'. Mr Clarke died some years ago, very old. James Doyle is also passed away.;
