tool / Castlecomer, 1798 Rebellion

Pair of iron blacksmith's tongs, made and used by a Co. Wexford born blacksmith named Joseph Poole at Coon, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. Used to make pikes for the men of Wexford in 1798, and to make shoes for Fr John Murphy's horse, according to a family tradition. The Wexford men were on their way to sack Castlecomer. Presented to the National Museum by Joseph Poole's great great great grandson.;
