Victory Medal / Thomas Kettle, R.D.F., WWI

Victory Medal, 1914 - 1919, of Tom Kettle. One of two World War I medals of Lt Thomas Michael Kettle, Royal Dublin Fusiliers (9th February 1880 to 9th September 1916) . Kettle attended college in UCD, became a barrister in 1905, was elected as a MP in 1906, and served till 1910. In 1908 he became Professor of Economics at UCD. A nationalist poet, was one of the leading figures of his generation and joined the Irish Volunteers in 1913, later joining the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and fighting with them as part of the 16th Division in France. He was killed at the Battle of the Somme at Ginchy on 9 September 1916.;
