souvenir / Helles Point, Gallipoli, 1915

A copper ashtray made by the Royal Engineers on Cape Helles from the dome of the lighthouse which was blown up by the British on 25th April 1915. It is inscribed “Piece of Dome of Lighthouse on the Helles Point Gallipoli, destroyed on Easter Sunday 1915, 29th Division landed 25th April 1915, Dardanelles”. Belonging to Lt Andrew J. Horne, 17th Stationary Hospital attached to the 29th Division. He served in Gallipoli in 1915-16 and later in Alexandria, India and Mesopotamia from 1917-18.;
