Letter on St. John’s Ambulance Brigade No 12 (Irish) District headed paper, from Deputy Commissioner J. Lumsden to Sister Anna Sproule, dated 15 July 1916, congratulating her on being awarded the Bronze Medal for gallantry. Part of the paperwork relating to the awarding of medals to Sister Anna Sproule, 1916. Accompanying note from Elizabeth C. Ludlow (Sproule’s niece) - Sister Anna Sproule was night superintendent of Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital, Grand Canal Street, Dublin, at the time of the 1916 Rising. She went out, under fire, to help the wounded of both sides to Mount Street Bridge where the Sherwood Foresters, an English Regiment, coming from England via Dun Laoghaire, had been ambushed by the Sin Feiners. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross 2nd Class by the British War Office, and the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade for Gallantry displayed by her.;
