Henry Grattan’s personal coach. Private type coach, painted black, including the wheels and undercarriage metalwork. Two doors with pull down glazed windows, handles not present. Seat, back wall and sides of cab interior of cream coloured padded textile (silk) with an embroidered decorative border. Seat cushion missing. Seat facing front only. Interior of doors and front wall also with decorative silk coverings. Covering of the ceiling of the cab missing. Fold out type passenger steps, stored in upright position inside doors. Large glazed window in two sections to the front of cab, and one small window in the centre of the back wall. Driver's seat, at the front, positioned high, with brass back rail. Storage box underneath driver’s seat, painted black. Standing platform at the back of the cab. Undercarriage of iron, with a turntable at front axel. ‘C’ type springs front and back. Iron fittings on body, including a lamp holder at each side of the cab front. Back axel blocked with wood sections as a repair. All wheels with iron rims. Back left wheel possibly a replacement (unpainted), or has been stripped of paint. Iron rim on this wheel also rusted. Two hubcaps found inside the cab; very worn but the maker’s name Colclough’ can be made out. This is Colclough (John) and Hoey of 23 / 24 Duke Street, Dublin (1864 Dublin Street Directory), founded by Richard Colclough in 1801. This would date the coach from between 1801 to Grattan’s death in 1820. Early 19th century.;
