Officer's levée coatee of a Yeomanry Cavalry Corps, c. 1796. Officer's levée coatee of a Yeomanry Cavalry corps. Dark blue with scarlet facings. Silver braid loops in abundance on chest, silver braid on the collar, cuffs and tail portions. White turnbacks. On the base of each turnback is a silver embroidered eight pointed star with sequins on a scarlet patch. There are 69 buttons on the coatee, the vast majority are ball shaped silver with no maker's name, the majority engraved with a crown, but with no engraving of corps title on cypher so it is not possible to advise which corps the coatee belonged to. The lining is of cream silk. Note: Levée coatees were worn for evening functions, dinner parties, balls etc, usually with white breeches, stockings and slippers. Not worn for mounted duties.
