commemorative jug / Orange Institution

Orange Institution Jug, English, late 18th century. Jug, cream-coloured earthenware. Large bulbous body decreasing to base. Upright neck, pinched out spout, C-shaped handle applied from top. Russet band around rim, collar base and back of handle. Transfer-printed in green with the statue of King William III mounted on front, and on either side various symbols and the legend underneath - "May the Orange Institution stand as firm as the Oak, and the Enemies fall off like the leaves in October". The transfers are hand coloured with red, yellow, blue and purple paint.;
