commemorative saucer / William III, c. 1870
Tea set, Glasgow, about 1870. Part of a teaset of white earthenware, high glaze. Saucer with deep bowl, slight well. Cup with straight everted sides, angular handle. Bowl straight slightly eberted sides; cream jug of barrel-shape, inverted at neck, wide-splayed mouth, angular handle. Decorated in transfer-printing in ochre with William III mounted, crossing the Boyne. Blue wash for river waters, red and yellow enamel paints for dress. Transfer-printed band around saucer and inside cups of leaves in grill. Three pieces (bowl and two saucers) marked underneath with transfer-print of laurel wreath around a circle enclosing the name of the pattern "King William" and "D.L. + Co.", for David Lockhart and Company, Victoria Pottery, Pollokshaws, Glasgow; crown above the circle.;
