uniform / Irish Volunteer, Jacob's Biscuit Factory, 1916

Irish Volunteer tunic, 1914. Coat, greyish green cloth. Buttoned down the front with five large brass buttons each bearing the Brian Boru harp. Four pockets, the upper two patch pockets with flap buttoned over with small brass buttons similar to the large buttons down the front. Shoulder straps. Worn by the Irish Volunteers in Easter Week, 1916, and found afterwards in Jacob's Biscuit Factory, which was occupied by them. An early pattern, early 1914, in accordance with Bulmer Hobson's description of the official pattern as set by the Irish Volunteer Uniform Committee. Dark green cuffs and shoulder straps. Some small darned repairs made to the right hand patch pocket. Small hole in same. Inside is '61-6' (?) in ink.;
