painting / Fenian Flags, 1865-1867

Drawing painted; of two crossed Fenian Flags. Reconstuctions from descriptions of flags used or prepared by the Fenians as given at the 1865 and 1867 trials. The Left; found near Stepaside, Co. Dublin, 6th March 1867. The Right; Flag found in the possession of Michael Moore, pikemaker, on his arrest in Dublin in 1865. How the colours were arranged is not clear from the descriptions and in that respect the drawing is tentative. The stars represent the countries, and the stripes the provinces.;
