writing set / Thomas M. Ray, State Trials, 1844

Writing case or desk, which belonged to and was used by Thomas M. Ray as a portfolio to store papers and also as a writing desk to take notes and write letters in the Court room during the State Trials in 1844, a handwritten note on the back of the box states this. Ray writes a further note written in March 1869, stating that he remodelled the box, covering it in fancy paper and made and fitted drawers to form the present cabinet. Green box, half of lid lifts to reveal a yellow interior with decorative illustrations.;
