Medal awarded to the participants in the Rebellion, 1916. Bronze. In the shape of an eight pointed star with flames between the points (that is, the outline of the original Irish Volunteers badge and present Army badge) 1.5" by 1.5". Obverse: In a plain field surrounded by a circular belt and superimposed on the star an erect, partly draped figure of Cuchulainn supported by cords which bind him to a tree stump, his right hand holding a sword, his left arm extended downward to a shield, his head and upper part of his body inclined to his left, a raven on his right shoulder. Reverse: On a circular field stippled and superimposed on the reverse of the star , in the centre, 1916 and around, above SEACHTAIN NA CASCA, all in relief. A ring soldered to back at top whence the medal is suspended from a second ring sew.n to a ribbon 1.4" wide, divided green an orange vertically, the green on the wearer's right. The clasp fronted by an oblong plate, 1.5" by 1/5"inch, bronze, bearing Celtic design in relief. Designed by Corporal G. O'Neill, Survey Co., Corps of Engineers.
