uniform pattern book / J.B. Johnstone, Dublin

Book of records of uniforms kept by Messrs. J.B. Johnstone Ltd, 32 Moleworth Street, Dublin, Military Tailors. The book, 20 inches by 14 inches thick, containing written and typescript details of uniforms worn by officers of regiments of the British Army, officers of the Irish Army, and the members of Irish hunts. The information, which is arranged alphabetically, appears on loose sheets of irregular size, inserted between the pages of the book. Letters from the officer's of the regiments etc, and military regulations regarding dress are included, as are also patterns of cloth and cloth rubbings of braid. The book appears to have been used as a general file of information and record of orders. The period covered is late 19th century to the nineteen twenties. The book was taken by the cutter when the firm went out of business in 1944 and was given to the seller by the cutter's widow on his death.;
