commemorative medal / Roger Casement, 1916

Roger Casement. Medal, bronze. The obverse depicts Bust of Roger Casement to right; around - Roger Casement; with the initials BM to the left on field (B.H. Meyer of Pforzheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany). The reverse depicts two draped female figures seated on an arch which spans two countries. Both figures are manacled and clasp hands beneath a star, above which is the legend - IRLAND UND DEUTSCHLAND. The figure to the left, with one hand resting on a harp, represents Ireland. Under the arch is a shield of the emblems of both countries superimposed on a sword, beneath which is the legend - VEREINT IN LEIDEN. To the left is a round tower and to the right the initials 'BM'. Diameter of medal is 2.375 inches.;
