Rotunda Infantry (Yeomanry, Dublin) Medal 1789, silver, hand engraved. Oby: Across, TO MR./ JOHN AYRE/ FOR./ HIS SUPERIOR SKILL/ IN ARMS/ ON THE 9th DAY OF SEP./ 1798/ 4th COMPANY. Within an inner double line around above, PRESENTED AND ADJUDGED BY CAPTN. THORP. and around below, ROTUNDA INFANTRY. Rev. A uniformed soldier standing on a ground of wavy lines looking to right with his right hand on the bayonet of a musket which is held by his left hand and the stock of which is resting on the ground. To the right, a tent and to left a pile of 13 cannon balls. Rocks in the foreground. On a ribbon around above, FOR MY KING AND COUNTRY. Formed of an elliptical disc bound with a double stripped rim. 2 ins. wide and with a hinged loop for suspicion. Diameters 2.3 x 2.8 ins.;
